Kunming Changshui International Airport is an airport under construction in Kunming, Yunnan, People's Republic of China. The airport is located 22 km east of metropolitan Kunming in a degraded mountain area 2100m above sea level. It is intended to replace the current Kunming Wujiaba International Airport (IATA: KMG, ICAO: ZPPP). All operations will be transferred to the new airport by January 2012, and the old airport will be demolished.
The new airport has 2 runways (versus the single runway at Wujiaba), and is expected to handle 38 million passengers per year by 2020. Later on 68 million passengers are expected.
The main terminal was designed by architectural firm SOM with engineering firm Arup.

The main 548,300m² terminal of Changshui Airport will be the second largest terminal building in China.[1]
Construction began in 2009 and at the time was reported to be named the Zheng He International Airport. The very short construction time was marred by two separate incidents. The first incident occurred on January 3rd 2010, when 7 construction workers died as an incomplete overpass collapsed.[2] In another incident on June 28th 2011, 11 workers were injured when an under construction tunnel collapsed.[3] Construction of the airport's main terminal was completed by July 2011.[4]
The new Airport will be connected to Kunming city by new 13 km toll highway and the free old S101 Provincial Road, which is not very capable.
